Don't Miss our Upcoming Seminar on Formative and Summative Assessment!

Join us for a seminar this Saturday, February 1st, at ALCOFT High School in Saint-Louis on the subject of Formative and Summative Assessment in the ELL Classroom.  We will have two presentations as well as a coffee break (of course!)  Presenters will be Erin St. Peter and Macaire Diallo, with words from ATES board members.  Please arrive around 8:30 and don't be late!  This will be a great opportunity to share with your fellow colleagues.

Macaire Diallo passed on some excellent information about an upcoming webinar on testing offered through Oxford University.  It is titled, Making Good Tests.  The date for the webinar is February 6th and there will be two opportunities to log in and view it: 12h-13h GMT and 16h-17h GMT.   If you are not busy you might want to check out this resource during one of those times.  If you do tune in to the webinar, feel free to give us some feedback about any interesting things you may have learned!

Dissemination of the Hornby Seminar

Before the election of this year's new board, ATES Saint-Louis presented a dissemination of the Hornby Seminar, which was attended by Mr. Brown earlier this year.  Brown shared with over 40 teachers some of the takeaways from that seminar during his presentation at the regional office in Saint-Louis.  Malamine Sylla also provided valuable insight to attendees during the presentation, collectively titled, Teaching with Limited Resources.  Look out for more seminars and opportunities for professional development like the one to be held on Saturday, February 1st that deals with formative and summative assessment in the ELL classroom.  Here are some photos from Brown & Sylla's presentations:

ATES SL Members Travel to National ATES Convention

Early this December, members of ATES Saint-Louis made the journey to Dakar for the annual National ATES Convention, this year focused on technology use in the ELL classroom.  Attendees partook in various seminars on different tech resources, connected with other ATES branches, and listened to speeches from the U.S. Embassy's RELO (Regional English Language Officer) John Silver as well as keynote speaker Michael Krauss.
