Breaking News English:
This is a good resource for finding short audio clips of current news events that are spoken slowly and with simple English for varying levels of English proficiency. While there are no pre-made lesson plans attached, the news stories are good ways to get extra listening practice for your students.
StoryCorps:
StoryCorps is a good resource for the ELL classroom. It has many short stories from a diverse group of Americans. The stories are short (around 3 minutes long) and use conversational as opposed to academic English. You can find transcripts of every story and some stories have even been adapted to video versions that you can watch with or without subtitles. Even though StoryCorps is not created for ELL learners, it can still be part of a listening activity. Remember that communication is not just about understanding every word. Have your students listen for certain words that you have reviewed or see if they can identify the mood, characters, theme, etc.
